Lawrence A. Griffith, Sr.

July 26, 1924 — March 6, 2018

Lawrence Allen “Bud” Griffith, Sr., 93, of Raymore, was born, July 26, 1924, in Pleasant Hill, the son of Syranus S. and Clara Z. (Bunnell) Griffith, Sr. He departed this life, Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at the Foxwood Springs Living Center, Raymore, surrounded with love and family.

Lawrence was a 1942, Pleasant Hill High School graduate.

On March 28, 1948, he was united in marriage to Margaret V. Long in Greenwood. She died one day after him on March 7, 2018, culminating an end of nearly 70 years marriage.

Lawrence had been employed as an over the road truck driver for TIME-DC and was a member of the Teamsters; later he drove a tour bus for Continental Trailways. He had also farmed. He was a former member of the Bethany Christian Church, Pleasant Hill, and the Lee’s Summit Christian Church. He was currently a member of the Raymore Christian Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and watching the Royals play on T.V.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; his son Allen Griffith, Jr.; two grandsons, Travis Giaccetti and Joshua Griffith; three brothers, John Griffith, Lloyd Griffith, and Syranus Griffith, Jr.; and five sisters, Estella Robinett, Josephine Johnson, Margaret Johnson, Anna Munninger, and Clara Rose Browning.

He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Giaccetti of Raymore; four grandchildren, Tracie (and Nick) Biggerstaff of Overland Park, Kansas; Joseph Griffith of Buffalo, New York, Angela (and Jason) Scarborough of Odessa, and Christina (and Gareth) Stevenson of Ruckersville, Virginia; 10 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Visitation for both Lawrence and Margaret was held Friday, March 9, 2018, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

Graveside funeral services for both was held Friday, March 9, 2018, at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Reverend Edwin Peoples will officiate.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Crossroads Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
