On Monday, July 9th 2018, Yoshiko Knope passed away at the age of 81 years.
Yoshiko was born in Okinawa, Japan to Soko and Uto Machida. It was there she attended high school and was later employed at the United States Marine Corps base where she met her husband James. They were married for 46 years.
Yoshiko’s legacy lives on through her daughter, Alice Martin and her husband Tony, and through her grandchildren Kelcey Clapp and her husband Jordan, Noah and Jonah, and great-grandchildren Emmy, Ollie, and Hazel. They all lovingly called her “Obaa.”
She is preceded in death by her parents Soko and Uto Machida, and her brother Minoru. She is survived by her sisters Sadako, Chiyoko, and Sumiko, and her brother Kunio.
Yoshiko loved to garden extensively and go bowling. She also loved to spoil her grandkids and great-grandkids rotten. She was a faithful supporter of Kansas City baseball and football and Indiana basketball. She will be sorely missed.
The visitation was held on the evening of Monday, July 16th 2018 at Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, MO.
The funeral service took place on Tuesday, July 17th, 2018 at Stanley-Dickey Funeral home in Pleasant Hill, MO. Graveside service followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Memorial donations in memory of Yoshiko may be made to Pearl S. Buck International in lieu of flowers.
