Mrs. Alberta Ruby Schindler of Garden City, Missouri was born March 31, 1918 near Garden City the daughter of Oliver Joy and Ida Theresa (Schrock) Plank. She departed this life on Friday, August 19, 2011 at Crown Care Center, Harrisonville, Missouri at the age of 93 years, 4 months and 18 days.
On March 3, 1965, Alberta was united in marriage to Ralph Daniel Schindler in Kansas City, Missouri.
Alberta was a homemaker. She formerly was owner and operator of the Dari 0 in Garden City, Missouri was employed as a seamstress for the Garden City Garment Factory and for her brother, Roy Plank at the Golden Wedding Coffee Company, Kansas City, Missouri. She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church, the Quilting Club, Young Matrons Club and the Pitch Club all of Garden City. At the age of 13 after the death of her mother in 1932, Alberta took over the responsibility of raising the family with her father. She was a lifelong resident of Garden City, Missouri.
Besides her parents, Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph on November 8, 1984; five brothers, Roy, Stanley, Gerald, Clayton and Bob; two sisters, Jewell Plank and Glada Riffle.
Alberta is survived by two step sons, Ronnie Schindler, Garden City, Missouri, Jerry Schindler and wife, Dorothy; a step-daughter, Joyce Roach, Kansas City, Missouri; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, August 23, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice or to the United Methodist Church, Garden City, Missouri.
