Mrs. Anita Kerr East of Harrisonville, Missouri was born November 25, 1937 in Green Ridge, MO, the daughter of Oscar and Faye (Wickham) Kerr. She departed this life on Friday, June 20th, 2008 at the age of 70 years, 6 months and 26 days.
On November 17th, 1956, Anita was united in marriage to James Owen East of Calhoun, MO who preceded her in death in 1991. Together they had four children, first living in Raytown, MO and then moving to Harrisonville in 1971.
Anita retired from the Cass County Collector's Office in Harrisonville, MO. Previously, she was employed for several years at the Cass County Library, the Cass County Historical Society, the Cass County Prosecutor's Office, and a switchboard operator for the Cass County Courthouse and as a secretary for East Painting since 1961.
Anita was a member of the First Baptist Church, Windsor, MO. She had also been a member of the Log Cabin Quilters, Red Hats, Cass County Council on Aging, Youth Friends, Wal-Center 4-H Club, Rainbow Girls, and Room Mother for the PTA. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, sewing, crocheting, knitting, art, and spending time with her children and grandchildren to which she was known as Grammy.
She wrote that her greatest accomplishments were ""raising four wonderful children, watching 6 wonderful grandkids grow and being a good mother-in-law to 4 in-laws"".
Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Raymond Floyd Kerr.
She is survived by two daughters, Connie Shoemaker and husband Chris of Lee's Summit, MO; Debbie Sharpe and husband Kevin of Moberly, MO; and two sons, Kevin East and wife Shamera of Ballard, MO; and Gary East and wife Anne of Harrisonville, MO. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Coleson, Paige, Camryn, Cash, Samuel and Libby; sister Mary Arminta Malin of Carl Junction, MO; other relatives and many, many dear friends.
Following cremation, a memorial service was held Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association or Crossroads Hospice.
