Anna R. Schupp

Anna Roberta Schupp Brown, 93, of Lake Waukomis, formerly of Pleasant Hill, departed this life Monday, August 24, 2015, at the St. Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City.
She was born, March 7, 1922, near Archie, the daughter of Clyde W. and Anna LaFern (McKee) Burton. She was born in a log cabin, during a flood, with the doctor arriving via canoe. Anna was the oldest of five children. Attending Archie schools she enjoyed playing basketball, where she gained her nickname “Annie Buttons”. She eloped at age 17, on November 3, 1939, after a basket ball game, to marry William Elroy Schupp, of Pleasant Hill.
During WWII Anna worked at Pratt & Whitney’s Kansas Plant which produced the “Double Wasp” air plane engines for the war effort. She helped Elroy operate the Schupp Sinclair Service Station & Bulk Agency from 1949 until 1969 in downtown Pleasant Hill. With Anna and Elroy both born Circa 1920, and the eldest children of their large families, they learned and lived “The Greatest Generation” values of hard work, common decency, and genuine kindness towards others their entire lives.
Anna worked for Dr. E. B. Stalling, Pleasant Hill, as a chiropractic assistant for over 25 years, retiring in 1993. She truly enjoyed her time working with Dr. Ethyl Bert! Anna also operated an antique booth in Greenwood for many years, remaining and avid Antique Collector for over 60 years.
Anna was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of Ivy Leaf Chapter #215 Order of the Eastern Star, Pleasant Hill, and a volunteer with the Lee’s Summit Hospital Auxiliary for many years.
She lived in Pleasant Hill for 70 years before moving to Lake Waukomis in 2010.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents; one son Carl W. Schupp in 1949; and husbands, Wm. Elroy Schupp in 1983, and Elwyn T. Brown in 1999.
She is survived by one son Rick Schupp of Lake Waukomis; one sister, Caroline Drury of Archie; two brothers, Clyde “Junior” Burton, and Larry Burton, both of Harrisonville.
Visitation was held Friday, August 28, 2015, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 29, 2015, at the funeral home. Reverend David Owsley of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life Luncheon will follow at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
The family wishes to thank the caring and professional staff at St. Luke’s Hospital North Hospital and or the Pleasant Hill Hospice House for their loving care of mom.
