Mrs. Ardith Irene Courtney, of Osceola, Missouri, was born June 10, 1932 at Camas Valley, Oregon, the daughter of Joseph L. and Daisy M. (Thrush) Kirkendall. She departed this life Wednesday, September 7, 2005, at Sac-Osage Hospital, Osceola at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 27 days.
On March 29, 1974, Ardith was united in marriage to James E. Courtney in Miami, Oklahoma.
Ardith was a homemaker. Her greatest aspirations were to be a good wife, mother and Christian. Her adult life was spent in the Church of Christ and the Baptist Churches. Honest, faithful and loyal; always pleasant and a friend to all. Ardith was gracious, gentle and kind. She will be missed by her loved ones and remembered by all for her enduring pain of arthritis, yet smiling for almost 20 years.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wayne Brock; one brother, Melvin Kirkendall.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Courtney of the home; two sons, Dennis Brock, Spokane, Washington and Matt Brock, Garden City, Missouri; three stepsons, James E. Courtney, Jr., Latour, Missouri, Doug Courtney and Matthew Courtney, Garden City, Missouri; two daughters, Peggy Hatfield, Garden City, Missouri and Kay Palmer, Ronan, Montana; four stepdaughters, Judy Crossley, Denise Pulliam and Joyce Hern, all of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Susan Pulliam, Garden City, Missouri; two Hunkapi daughters, Deborah Davis, Pleasant Hope, Missouri and Gail Allen, Rogersville, Missouri; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lynn Kirkendall and Alvin (Teddy) Kirkendall, Camas Valley, Oregon; two sisters, Louise Smith, Coos Bay, Oregon and Ellen Cunningham, Newark, Ohio; a Hunkapi sister, Diane Dion, Camas Valley, Oregon; a Hunkapi brother-in-law, Randy, Hartly, Humansville, Missouri; a Hunkapi niece, Terrye Morgan, Cleveland, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 10, 2005
at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery. Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis foundation.
