Austin Taylor

Austin Taylor of Raymore, Missouri departed this life Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri.
Austin was born June 10, 1920 in Chillicothe, Missouri to Austin and Lillian Taylor. He graduated from high school in Detroit, Michigan. On a warm midsummer day in 1942, young United States Army Lieutenant Austin Taylor married Ann Gibson. Later that year, as part of the Second Armored Division commanded by General Patton, he landed in North Africa, the next year invading Sicily, then moving through Rome and later crossing the Rhine.
After returning home, he graduated from Austin College in Sherman, Texas, and received his Master’s Degree in chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis. In 1951 he began his career in the veterinary supply business with Jensen-Salisbury Laboratories in Kansas City. He later started his own veterinary supply business and retired from Edwards Veterinary Supply Company, Springfield, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ann, by his parents, and by his brother John and sister Lillian.
On February 16, 2003 he married Anita Ricketts with whom he enjoyed many wonderful years traveling, being with friends and family, and sharing a love of bluegrass music. He was a member of the Kansas City Area Bluegrass Club.
He is survived by his wife Anita and by his son Steve and Steve’s wife Linda, and by his stepdaughter Linda Burgess and his stepson C. E. Ricketts, and by many dear in-laws, nieces, nephews, and stepchildren and grandchildren.
The family requests any memorial contributions to Powell Gardens, Kingsville, Missouri.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, April 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri. Cremation with inurnment at the Floral Hills Cemetery, Raytown, Missouri.
Family will receive friends Friday, April 29, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
