Barbara Sims

Barbara Jean Sims, 81, of Pleasant Hill, was born, March 20, 1936, in Kansas City, the daughter of Walter Rush and Edna Vern (Lyons) Ewing. She departed this life, Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at her daughter’s home surrounded with love and family.
Barbara was a 1956 Southeast High School graduate. On September 21, 1957, she was united in marriage to James Dickson Sims, Jr. in Henrietta, Oklahoma; he preceded her in death on April 4, 1985.
She spent most of her life in Kansas City and the Grandview area before moving to Pleasant Hill in 2003.
She was employed as a Hostess and Waitress for several Kansas City restaurants. She was a former member of the Heartland Tabernacle in Belton and a current and active member of the Grace Family Fellowship in Pleasant Hill. She enjoyed road trips, dining out, going to church, especially Bible Study, and spending time with her family.
Barbara was also preceded in death by her parents; and one daughter, Sharon Ross in 1999; 5 brothers, Roy, Lloyd, Gene, Ronnie, and Lee; and one sister, Edna Vern Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Loretta Butricks and Janet Zumwalt, both of Pleasant Hill; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Sunday, August 27, 2017, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 28, 2017, at the funeral home. Reverend Wyatt Shanks will officiate.
Graveside services were held Monday, August 28, 2017, at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Casket bearers are Brandon Cantwell, Jeremiah Hall, Joshua Hall, William Ross, Jr., and Michael Zumwalt.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pleasant Hill Meals on Wheels and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
