Betty E. Mainard of Garden City Missouri was born in Ballard, Missouri on January 9, 1922 to Charles B. and Mattie E. Halcomb. She passed away on September 4, 2009 at the age of 87 yrs. 7 months and 25 days at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville, Missouri.
Betty graduated from Butler High School in 1940. She then moved to Harrisonville where she worked for Production Credit Co. When WW II broke out, she traveled to Parsons, Kansas to work at North American Aviation plant. After WW II, Betty worked for Eidson Title Co in Harrisonville Missouri. On December 21, 1945, she was united in marriage to Arthur J. Mainard (Junior) and to this union four children were born, Shanda, Lora Lee, Jim and Joyce.
In 1959 she went to work for Hight-Eidson Title Company in Harrisonville. During income tax season, Betty assisted Dena Dyer in tax preparation and later purchased her business. In 1976 after Junior?s death, she established the Flower Box in Garden City, MO.
After selling Mainard Tax Service and the Flower Box, she worked at the Garden City Bank. In 1985 she began working for Charles E Hight, Attorney in Harrisonville, retiring in 1997 at the age of 75.
Betty was a member of the Garden City United Methodist Church, and enjoyed serving the Lord in many different areas. She was a fifty year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of White Shrine, and American Legion Auxiliary. Betty gave her time freely and willingly to these organizations and developed lots of great friendships through the years. She took special pride in her children, grandchildren and great -grandchildren. Betty also enjoyed getting together with friends to play cards and visit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include her three daughters and one son; Shanda Dyke and husband, Gene, Jim Mainard and wife, Dawnell all of Garden City Missouri, Lora L.Cornell and husband, Richard, Harrisonville, Missouri and Joyce Kauffman and husband, Jerry, Glenwood Springs, Colorado; 10
Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri. Burial will be at the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.
Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
