Betty Jean Smith

Mrs. Betty Jean Smith of Adrian, Missouri was born December 21, 1925 in Osceola, Missouri the daughter of Alva and Nora Ethel (Doyle) Wheeler. She departed this life on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Medicalodge of Butler, Butler, Missouri at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 21 days.
On June 30, 1945, Betty was united in marriage to Donald Briviande Smith in Harrisonville, Missouri.
Betty was employed as a custodian for United Telephone Company until her retirement on February 27, 2003. Earlier she was employed at different restaurants in our local area. She was a member of the Cove Creek Christian Church near Urich, Missouri. Betty had lived in Bates County area and had moved to the farm in 1973. She enjoyed her family, grandchildren, cooking and playing a spirited game of cards.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald on January 4, 2007; her son, Larry Dale Smith; four brothers, Elton, Everett, Loren and Julian Wheeler.
She is survived by a son, Gary D. Smith and wife, Margaret, Crescent, Oklahoma; her daughter, LaDonna J. Diller, Harrisonville, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Wilmer Wheeler, Ottawa, Kansas; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Dayton Cemetery near Garden City.
