Betty Jo Barnhart

Betty Jo Barnhart, 76, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born April 25, 1939, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Lacester Devern and Dorothy (Fellingham) Patterson. She departed this life at 5:34 a.m. Sunday, May 31, 2015, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City.
Betty was a 1957 Kansas City East High School graduate.
On May 3, 1957 she was united in marriage to Donald Lee “Barney” Barnhart in Kansas City, Missouri.
Betty had been employed as an office manager for several car dealerships in the Kansas City area including Rudy Fick Ford in Kansas City, and Adams Toyota in Belton. Following her retirement in 2002 she worked part time for Brant Farrar at Kwik Auto.
She was an active member of the Pleasant Hill Big Creek Baptist church and was a former Sunday school and Bible Study teacher. Her ministry included cross stitching American flags for active soldiers and veterans. She was an avid bowler, loved to fish, plant flowers and watch birds. Most importantly she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Denny Patterson; and one sister, Sara Lynn.
She is survived by her husband Barney of Pleasant Hill; three children, J. Kent Barnhart (and Brian McGinness) of Kansas City, Missouri, Shelia (and Michael) Davenport of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and Kevin (and LaDonna) Barnhart of Garden City, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Nolan Barnhart of Blue Springs, Missouri, Trinity Howe of Garden City, Lake (and Shannon) Barnhart of Sibley, Missouri, Alex Davenport, Bailey Sharp, Jordan Davenport and Canton Sharp all of Lee’s Summit: one great grandchild, Stryker Fox of Garden City; and one brother, Don Patterson of Eureka, Kansas; other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, at the funeral home. Pastor Preston Sanders will officiate. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers are Kevin Barnhart, Lake Barnhart, Nolan Barnhart Alex Davenport, Mike Davenport, and Canton Sharp. Honorary casket bearer is J. Kent Barnhart.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Barnhart Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
