William Joseph “Bill” Curtin, Jr., 75, of Pleasant Hill, was born September 1, 1939, in Independence, the son of William J. and Alice O. (Johnson) Curtin, Sr.. He departed this life at 7:51 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2015, at the Research Medical Center, Kansas City surrounded with love and family.
Bill was a 1957 Kingsville High School Graduate.
May 24, 1959, he was united in marriage to Rebecca Louise Smith in Pleasant Hill.
He was employed as an Assembly Line worker for Allis-Chalmers in Independence for over 30 years retiring in 1998. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, and gardening. He was especially fond of all high school sports. He and Becky have been very active with the Pleasant Hill High School Athletic department for many years. He was a Christian and Member of the Big Creek Baptist Church.
His parents and two grandchildren, Chad Murphy and Sandra JoAnn Keast, preceded Bill in death.
He is survived by his wife Becky of Pleasant Hill; one son William A. “Butch” Curtin of Independence; four daughters, Cynthia L. (and Greg) Richardson and Ginger Curtin, both of Pleasant Hill, Pamela J. (and David) Bannister of Franklin, Tennessee, and Sherry Jean Curtin-Keast of Las Vegas, Nevada: one foreign exchange son, Johannes Erikson of Greenland; 11 Grandchildren; Cathryn L. Richardson, Christina L. Richardson, Clinton D. Richardson, Christian D. Richardson, Rebecca L. Murphy, Melesa A. Murphy, Roger A Close, Spc. Tyler W. Close, Sammantha R. Niemeier, William T. Keast, Kimberly N. Keast; 4 great grandchildren; Dalton Murphy, Ryleigh R. Curtin, Connor W. Richardson, and Hunter A. Close; one sister, Alice J. (and Dick)Moser of Millcreek, Washingon; four step-grandchildren; other relatives; and a host of many friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2015, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home. Pastor Todd MacLean will officiate. Casket bearers are Roger Close, Clint Richardson, Christian Richardson, James Curtin, Jimmy Curtin, David Fields, and Dave Zang. Honorary casket bearers are Spc. Tyler Close, William Keast, Bill Cox, John Culp, Roy Johansen, Steve Leslie and George Creason. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2015, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pleasant Hill Rooster Booster Club and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
