Billy Junior Dickey of Harrisonville, Missouri was born November 22, 1925 the son of Earnest Dickey and Gladys Gillian (Epps) Gordon near Austin, Missouri. He departed this life surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 11, 2008 at his home in Harrisonville.

On March 2, 1947, Bill was united in marriage to Inez Wilma Atkinson at the home of her parents in Archie, Missouri.

Bill was a licensed embalmer and funeral director in the State of Missouri since 1948. He and his wife, Wilma moved to Garden City on July 4, 1947 to manage the local funeral home. He owned and operated Dickey Funeral Homes, Inc. in Harrisonville and Garden City, Missouri since 1981. He served his families with duty, obligation, dignity, pride, honesty and respect for over 61 years. Bill had formerly been in partnership with funeral homes in Harrisonville, Archie, Adrian and Clinton, Missouri. While in Garden City, he operated the local ambulance service for 23 years and was employed as an assistant cashier at the Garden City Bank for 16 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Harrisonville and a former deacon and member of the First Baptist Church, Garden City. Bill was a Navy veteran of World War II serving 19 months in the Pacific. He was a member and Past Master of the Index Masonic Lodge, a member of the American Legion Post #498, a member and Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Past President of the Garden City Lions Club and served as Cabinet Secretary for Distrist 26E, served as a member for 48 years of the Garden City Cemetery Association Board and was President for 33 years. He had served several terms on the Garden City City Council and the Garden City School Board and the Garden City Senior Housing all of Garden City. He was a member of the VFW Post #4409, a charter member of the Spirit of 76 Chapter SAR both of Harrisonville and had served on the Board of Trustees at Cass Medical Center for several years, past treasurer of the Austin Cemetery Association and a member of the Missouri Funeral Directors Association for over 50 years and the National Funeral Directors Association. Bill had attended school in Archie, Missouri and was a 1943 graduate of Harrisonville High School. Bill graduated from the University of Mortuary Science in Kansas City, Kansas in 1947. He had lived in Archie, Harrisonville and Garden City before moving back to Harrisonville in 1980.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lou Ann on November 7, 1996.

Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years,Wilma Dickey; his daughter, Sharon Burris; two sons, Bill Dickey and wife, Linda, Jerald A. Dickey and wife, Sonja all of Harrisonville, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, Joe, Krista, Bill, Wendy, Sarah, Laura, Brok, Dawson, Alison, Rhyse and Truman; thirteen great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the Dickey Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri with interment with Military Honors in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Garden City Cemetery Association.
