Bobby Joe Willis, 76, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri was born Sunday, March 1, 1936, in Evansville, Indiana, the son of Albert Mathias and Clara Pearl (Ruxor) Willis. He departed this life at 8:23 a.m., Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Lee’s Summit Medical Center.
Bob was a United States Air Force Veteran.
On November 27, 1959, he was united in marriage to Brenda Jane Anderson in Malden, Missouri. He and Brenda moved to Pleasant Hill in 1963.
Bob began his working career as a salesman working for several Companies including Borden foods in Kansas City. Later he owned and operated Express Muffler in Pleasant Hill; Buck’s Barnyard in Lee’s Summit and the Liquor Barn in Pleasant Hill.
He was a former city councilman and mayor of Pleasant Hill; a Master Mason and member of the Jewel Lodge #480 A.F & A.M, Pleasant Hill; a Kentucky Colonel; and the longest continuing member of the Pleasant Hill Golf Course. He was most proud of the fact that he was the Voice of the Roosters at Friday night football games for 32 years. He was also active in Pleasant Hill sports as a coach and official in football and basketball. He was a former Jaycee and Lions Club member.
Bob enjoyed bass fishing, golfing, motorcycles, and traveling in his RV. He and Brenda traveled through most of the United States and into Canada and Mexico. He was never afraid to try anything once, he even attended Auctioneer school. Bob lived life to its fullest and enjoyed every minute of it.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and one son; Brian J. Willis on July 25, 2009.
He is survived by his wife Brenda of the home; two sons Bradley J. (and Beth) Willis of Greentown, Indiana, and Brent J. (and Helene) Willis of Papillion, Nebraska; one daughter Beth J. (and Lance) Crull of Raymore, Missouri; two sisters Earlene Howard of Belle Chasse, Louisiana, and Elda Jean Owsley of Louisville, Kentucky; one sister-in-law Susie (and H.A.) Todd of Pleasant Hill; Eight grandchildren, Jaime, Venecia, Rebecca, Jeremy, Adam, Brieanna, Brooke, and Sarah; three great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Victoria, and Ayden; other relatives and a host of friends.
Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service was held Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home. Reverend Carl Knapp of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the ALS Association or the Salvation Army and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
