Bob L. Hedrick

Bobby Lee Hedrick, of Harrisonville, was born April 18, 1932 at the farm home of his parents, Elbert Charles and Tressie Dell (Sharp) Hedrick, the 7th of 10 children. He departed this life Monday, February 16, 2009 at Cass Regional Medical Center, Harrisonville at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 28 days.
Bob attended Reeds Spring schools and graduated in 1951. After graduation, he joined the Air Force and was a Korean War Veteran having served in Tripoli.
Bob met his first love, Carolyn Davis, in Galena, Missouri and were married on May 25, 1955. Four children were born to this union, Mark Stephen, Dana Kathleen, Valerie Lynn and Darren Robert. Carolyn preceded him in death on February 10, 1970.
On October 1, 1970, Bob was united in marriage to Mickey Jean Finn. They met through their pediatrician, Dr. Mitra, who said, ?They would be good for each other? and has lasted over 38 years. The family grew to six children with the addition of David Lee and Michael Allen.
On April Fools Day, 1972 they moved to their little farm outside of Garden City, Missouri. Bob never stopped working to make it better. He loved every minute of fence building, barn building, gardening, raising pigs, cows and chickens. He especially loved his mule, Jackson, and dogs, Missy and Fancy. Bob was employed at Tillery Container until he was hired at Kenworth Truck Company. He was employed there from 1964 until the plant closed in 1987. Later he was employed at Anaconda and McFerron Tool and Machine until he started at the Belton Parks and Recreation in 1991 until his retirement in 1994. Bob loved to garden and was a member of the Cass County Farmers Market and served as president for several years. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church, Garden City and welcomed a small group into his home on a regular basis. Bob loved his family very much and was proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn and two brothers, S.A. and Paul Hedrick.
He is survived by his wife, Mickey of the home; his children, Mark Hedrick and wife Judy, Lee?s Summit, Missouri, Dana White and husband Jerry, Grain Valley, Missouri, Valerie Michael and husband Richard, Harrisonville, Missouri, David Hedrick and wife Gwen, Garden City, Missouri, Michael Hedrick and wife Lisa, Kingsville, Missouri, Darren Hedrick and wife Jana, Blue Springs, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, Lori and husband Joe, Chris and wife Desiree, Courtney, Adam and fiancée Alison, Carolyn, Ryan, Cady, Daniel, Emily, Madelyn, Michelle and husband Brandon, Debbie; three great-grandchildren, Nina, Johnny Joe and Kara and soon to be born baby girl Morgan; 3 brothers, Wayne Hedrick, Ottawa, Kansas, Cecil Hedrick, Nixa, Missouri and Bill Hedrick, Billings, Missouri; four sisters, May Weathers, Santa Maria, California, Merle Eaton, Marionville, Missouri, Evelyn Dooling, Stilwell, Kansas, Rosalie Angus, Billings, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
God has a place for a hard working man in heaven and Bob is probably putting in a garden right now. Instead of flowers, please visit a care center and give somebody a hug. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation, First Baptist Church of Garden City, or the charity of one?s choice. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with graveside services 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2009 at Yocum Pond Cemetery near Reeds Spring, Missouri.
Family suggest that memoirial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation or to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, Garden City, Missouri.
