Bryan Edward Simms, 53, of Kingsville, Missouri, was born Thursday, July 17, 1958 in Independence, Missouri, the son of Buel Ellis and Dolores Ione (Brooks) Simms. He departed this life at 3:21 p.m. on Sunday, April 8, 2012 at the Western Missouri Medical Center, Warrensburg.
Bryan was a 1976 Pleasant Hill High School Graduate where he had been an avid Wrestler, an active FFA member and a National Honor Society Member.
On March 2, 1987, he was united in marriage to Marlene Elizabeth Myers in Las Vegas, Nevada. They recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.
Bryan was a renowned and well respected farmer in the area, and was skilled in all aspects of farming. At an early age he started a hay hauling business and earned a great reputation for hard work that led him to be nicknamed "Haymachine". They purchased their first mat truck in October 1973, and have been operating ever since. He and his brother Bruce also owned and operated Simms Trucking and were virtually inseparable in their work. In addition to farming he was currently working for the Kingsville Livestock Auction; but also worked for the Sedalia Sale Barn, Johnson County Livestock and the Odessa Sale Barn. He was a member of Cattleman’s Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Marlene of the home; two children Bryce Simms and Brooke Simms of the home; two step-children Brandon Jackson of Lone Jack and Shari Keck of Cleveland, Missouri; one brother Bruce Simms and his wife Kathy of Pleasant Hill; one nephew Ryan Simms of Pleasant Hill; two nieces Nici Wilson of Pleasant Hill, and Jodie White of Scammon, Kansas; other relatives; and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, April, 12, 2012. Reverend John McCroy of the Kingsville Baptist Church will officiate. Interment is in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers are Jeremy Anstine, Austin “Pork” Bishop, Mike Bishop, Byron Grainger, Milt Myers, and Chris Parris. Honorary casket bearers are Rick Anstine, Les Brooks, Dale Francy, Jr., Jerry Jenkins, and Tom Jones.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Bryan Simms Memorial Scholarship Fund which has been set up at the Pleasant Hill Bank or Kingsville Boosters both of which may be sent in care of the funeral home.
