Calvin C. Wright

January 29, 1928 — March 18, 2020

Calvin Coolidge Wright, 92, a resident of Benton House of Raymore, passed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.

Calvin, also known as Cal, Pops and Papa, is lovingly remembered by a large circle of family and friends. Cal served in the United States Army during WWII in occupied Japan. He married the love of his life, Melva Rose Shaw, on November 23, 1950, and they soon settled in “city life” in Independence, MO, which was their home for 66 years. They both served faithfully at Mt. Washington Methodist Church in Independence. Cal proudly worked at Armco Steel for 25 years before retiring, but retirement life wasn't for Cal. He began delivering car parts for Carquest, traveling all around the metro area. Twenty plus years later, Cal officially retired to spend some golden years with Melva. Cal and Mev had an uncanny ability to make everyone they met feel like family. Square dance partners and work colleagues (and their children!) melded into their family circle. Although they never had children of their own, an outsider would never have known, as each was unconditionally loved as uniquely as the next.

Cal was preceded in death by his wife, Melva, and leaves behind an enormous circle of loved ones who mourn his absence.

Surely, the angels in heaven have now learned what a fist-bump is, and how to correctly pronounce poodily-darn. Cal and Melva leave a legacy of love rarely seen in today's world.

Due to the current crisis in our world, a small graveside service for family at the Centerview Cemetery will be held Monday, March 23, 2020 with Military Honors.

A Celebration of Life scheduled as soon as allowed.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
