Charles H. Meyer

November 21, 1931 — January 31, 2009

Charles Henry Meyer of Creighton, Missouri was born November 21, 1931, north of Creighton, the son of Julius F. and Eunice M. (Hendricks) Meyer. He departed this life on Sunday, January 31, 2009 at his home, near Creighton at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 10 days.
He was the middle child of five children and grew up northeast of Creighton in Henry County.
Charlie attended Bee Branch elementary school near his childhood home and graduated from Creighton High School in 1949.
Charlie served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1955, earning the rank of master sergeant. He was stationed in Georgia and in England.
He married Dolores O?Neal of Creighton on Dec. 31, 1955; they were married for 53 years. Their home and original 40 acres has been owned and operated by the Meyer family for over 100 years. In 2006, Meyer Farms was awarded membership in the Missouri Century Farm Club.
Charlie was a member of the Creighton United Methodist Church and had served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a member of the Rural Mail Carriers Association and served as a treasurer and member of the Sherwood School board. He coached the boys? baseball teams in the summer time and was a seed dealer for Pioneer/Garst.
Charlie never knew a stranger; he loved to talk. Many people knew him as Charlie the mailman as he carried the mail in Creighton for over 32 years. Friends, neighbors, and family enjoyed Charlie?s homegrown sweet corn.
Charlie was born to farm; he loved to be outdoors in all seasons. In the spring, Charlie was busy planting crops and checking for newborn calves. In the summer time, he would be putting up hay while keeping an eye on the weather forecast. Harvest time in the fall, Charlie would be hauling beans to the grain bins. Then in the winter he would watch the bean prices in the paper. While he was in the hospital a few weeks ago, he was asking for a paper so he could check bean prices ? holding out for beans to hit $10 a bushel!
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the United Methodist Church, Creighton, Missouri with private family burial at Grant Cemetery near Creighton, Missouri.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Creighton United Methodist Memorial Fund.
