Clara Elizabeth Surber, of Garden City, Missouri, was born April 14, 1915 near Garden City, the daughter of Dean R. and Lorah Mae (Allen) Surber. She departed this life Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park, Kansas, at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 8 days.
Clara was employed as a secretary for a State Senator and Representative, as well as several Attorneys in Harrisonville, Missouri, and several companies in Kansas City, Missouri, until her retirement. She was a 1933 graduate of Garden City High School. Clara was an active member of the First Christian Church and Index Auxiliary Club, both of Garden City, and the Business & Professional Women's Club. She was very civic minded and politically active, having served as a delegate to the Democratic Convention in Chicago in 1956 and also attended the 1964 and 1968 Conventions in an official capacity. Clara was a life-long area resident.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by one sister, Mary K. Surber of the home; one brother, Robert D. Surber and wife Shirley, Garden City, Missouri; one niece, Rev. Candice K. Brown and husband Bill, Des Moines, Iowa; four nephews, Robert Surber Jr. and wife Debbie, Ronald Surber and wife Denise, all of Harrisonville, Missouri, Richard Surber, Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Rodney Surber and wife Gayla, Lee's Summit, Missouri; numerous other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 26, 2007 at Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with interment in Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.
Family suggests contributions may be made to the First Christian Church memorial fund, Garden City, Missouri and contributions may be left at the funeral home.
