Clarence Eugene “Gene” Barnett, 82, of Kansas City, Missouri, was born, July 2, 1936, in Kansas City, the son of Clarence and Margaret Ann (Williams) Barnett. He departed this life, Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the North Kansas City Hospital surrounded with love and family.
Gene was a 1954 Stillwell Kansas High School graduate.
On August 1, 1969, he was united in marriage to Julia Jones in Miami, Oklahoma.
Gene was employed as an accountant for Rew Materials in Lenexa, Kansas. He was a former member of the Northland Optimist Club. He enjoyed playing golf, woodworking (he made several doll houses for his grandchildren), snow skiing, and coaching his children’s baseball and softball teams.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Laura “Denise” Mendon; and one sister Lilly Triplet.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Julia of Kansas City; two sons, Richard (and Debbie) Barnett of Dallas, Texas, and Ryan Barnett of Kansas City, Missouri; two daughters, Lisa (and Tim) Hays of Kansas City, Kansas, and Nancy (and Dan) Wikel of Chicago, Illinois; one brother, Jerry (and Linda) Barnett of Independence, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2019, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri.
Graveside funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2019, at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Reverend D. Kent Deubner will officiate. Casket bearers are Luke Barnett, Richard Barnett, Ryan Barnett, Jeff Hays, Nick Hays, and Ben Wikel.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Parkinson’s Foundation of the Heartland and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
