Clyde O. Rush

January 23, 1924 — August 1, 2015

Loved and admired by his family and friends, Clyde Rush, at age 91, passed away August 1, 2015, in Harrisonville, MO. He was born on Jan. 23, 1924 in Erie, KS and at age 13 moved to Chanute.
Clyde attended college for one year and then served 33 months in the US Navy during WWII as a radarman on the destroyer ship, the Bache. The Bache survived a Japanese kamikaze attack during Clyde’s time onboard.
In Chanute, after the war, Clyde met Helen Kennedy, daughter of Lawrence and Elizabeth Kennedy, and married July 7, 1947.
Clyde lived in Erie, Chanute, Carbondale and Topeka, KS; Bella Vista, AR; and Harrisonville, MO. He worked at Martin Tractor Company in Topeka, KS for nine years and retired after 40 years as a cabinetmaker and foreman at the Highland Mill Shop in Topeka, KS.
Over the years, Clyde crafted many sets of cabinets and pieces of furniture for his family and his church. He was happiest when outdoors, fishing with his kids and grandkids, boating, hunting or golfing. He was also a member of the VFW Post #4409 in Harrisonville, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy O. and Nina Rush; and sister, Neva Blair.
He is survived by Helen Rush, his wife of 68 years; 2 siblings: Lois Anderson, Lawrence, KS; and Myron Rush and wife Betty, Iola, KS; 3 daughters: Patricia A. VanScoy, Lee’s Summit, MO; Debra L. Rush-Gerber, Kansas City, MO; Susan R. Kauffman and husband Cary, Olathe, KS; 8 grandchildren: Martricia A. Hilty and husband Joe, Clinton, MO; Tara L. Kneeshaw and husband Dan, Bentonville, AR; Tawn P. Kramer and wife Eri, San Diego, CA; Adom R. Kramer, Cupertino, CA; Sarah R. Penn, Olathe, KS; William R. Gerber, Atlanta, GA; Taylor E. Kauffman, Olathe, KS; Evan R. Kauffman, Olathe, KS; and 8 great grandchildren.
A funeral mass was held Friday, August 7, 2015 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Harrisonville, MO. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Our Lady of Lourdes building fund.
Funeral arrangements are under the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
