Donald Ray Lynn Sept. 2, 1953 - Oct. 27, 2005 Donald Ray Lynn, Harrisonville, Missouri, was born on Sept. 2, 1953, in Holden, Missouri, the youngest child of Kenneth Cecil Lynn and Betty Jean Byard Lynn of Harrisonville, Missouri. He passed away on October 27, 2005, as th result of an accident while riding his motorcycle, at the age of 52 years, 1 month and 25 days.
Don grew up in the Harrisonville area and graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in 1971. He resided in Harrisonville for 32 years, with the exception of two years in Ocala, Florida from 1988 to 1990.
Don was married to Ona Green from 1972 to 1975, and his only child, Paula Marie, was born on July 11, 1973.
Don married again, to Carol Winter on November 7, 1981. This marriage lasted 17 years, ending in 1998.
In 1973, Don was hired at the True Value Distribution Center in Grandview, Missouri, and he worked for the company for 20 years. In the early 1990s, Don started his own business, doing home repair and remodeling. This was work he truly enjoyed and his success was due to his hard work and attention to detail. He also took pride in keeping a spotless home and a neatly manicured lawn. His vehicles were always shining and detailed to perfection.
Don had many interests and hobbies. He loved anything to do with cars, especially racing. He enjoyed NASCAR and stock car races, but his all-time favorite was top-fuel drag racing. He loved Harley Davidson motorcycles, having owned two of them. He was a loyal _H.O.G._ member, always expressing disdain for what he called _rice-burners._
Don was very patriotic and proudly displayed the _Stars & Stripes_ in many ways. He took karate lessons and flying lessons. He like body-building and worked out lifting weights, always staying in great shape. He was fascinated with _The Incredible Hulk_ and he thought Lou Ferrigno had the ultimate physique. Don bore an uncanny resemblance to pro-wrestler _Hulk_ Hogan.
Don loved everything from the 1950s and often said he wished he had been born about 10 years sooner, so he would have experienced that _Happy Days_ era as a young adult. His favorite movie was _American Graffiti_ and he loved the _Andy Griffith Show._ Don collected a variety of things and was intrigued by old glass bottles. He discovered that he had a very special gift for creating cars out of wood. He spent hours in his workshop cutting and sanding and staining until they were almost perfect. He made several, each one different; keeping some for himself, giving some as gifts and was even commissioned to create some to sell.
Don liked music and always had the radio tuned to either _oldies_ or rock and roll._ Lynard Skynard and the Beach Boys were two of his favorite groups. His favorite CD lately was by the contemporary Christian group _Third Day._
Don enjoyed spending time with the family and _extended family_ that loved him. He was especially amused by his great-nephews, Alex, Austin and Mason. Don had a giving heart and always helped anyone in need.
Don was a lifelong Christian and joined the First Baptist Church of Harrisonville in 1981. He had renewed and enthusiastically embraced his faith in God in the past few years and was an active member of the Crossroads Assembly Church in Harrisonville, Missouri.
Don is survived by his daughter, Paula Wormington, and her husband, Joe, of Kansas City, Missouri; his mother, Betty Weir, Houston, Texas; his sister, Marcia Ford, and her husband, Larry, Archie; two brothers, Gary Lynn and his wife, Rae, Sacramento, California, and Jack Lynn, and his wife, Linda, Shawnee, Kansas. Don was preceded in death by his father, who passed away in 1986.
Don is also survived by three nephews and four nieces: Stacy Davis, Eric Ford, Brian Lynn, Jackie Leggett, Chad Messer, Jacquelyn Messer and Erin Barnes; and six great-nephews and one great-niece.
He also leaves his very dear friends, Herb and Diane Jones, Cheryl Campbell and David Knox, along with other family and friends.
