Doris Nadine Harris, of Harrisonville, Missouri was born August 4, 1926 in Garden City, Missouri the daughter of Valentine Andrew and Effie Mae (McCaslin) Cantrell. She departed this life on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at St. Luke's East, Lee's Summit, Missouri at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 15 days.
On October 16, 1954, Doris was united in marriage to Arlis A. Harris in Garden City, Missouri.
Doris was a homemaker and had been employed at the sewing factory in Garden City, Missouri, Lake City Ammunition Plant and Westinghouse, Kansas City, Missouri. She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and former member of the Clover Leaf Club. Doris loved to quilt, sew and make dresses for her granddaughters, embroidery, crochet baby afghans and cook.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Thomas Harris on December 11, 1955; a son, Russell D. Alderton on December 25, 2001; twin great-grandsons, Cody and Colby; three brothers, Euckle, Grover and Roy Cantrell; two sisters, Josie Luther and Hazel Garrett.
Doris is survived by her husband, Art Harris of the home; two sons, Joe Alderton and wife Kathleen, Bedford, Wyoming, John Harris and wife Connie, Urich, Missouri; two daughters, Doris Briscoe and husband Robert and Melanie Fienen and husband Roger all of Harrisonville, Missouri; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and two on the way; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery south of Harrisonville.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Association.
