Dorothy L. Hartzler

Dorothy Lee Hartzler, 84 of Harrisonville, Missouri died June 25, 2014 at Adrian Manor.
She was born November 2, 1929. Her parents were Paul and Fannie Shank Hershey.
Dorothy grew up in Cheraw, Colorado. She attended Hesston College in Hesston, Kansas, and graduated from Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana in 1951, with a BA in Home Economics. Dorothy taught at Berean Academy in Elbing, Kansas, from 1951-1954, and at Bethany Christian High School in Goshen, Indiana from 1954—1956.
On August3, 1956, Dorothy married Jay Hartzler and moved to Harrisonville, Missouri.
She continued teaching Home Economics the next five years at Peculiar High School in Peculiar, Missouri. Dorothy is remembered most by her service to the community through her work at Kinder Kastle Nursery School, which she led in establishing in 1968, and by her service through the Harrisonville Mennonite Church in establishing Harrisonville Christian School. Dorothy was a charter member of the Harrisonville Mennonite Church and a faithful church member. She was committed to the ministry of Christian education. She earned a MA in Education from Oral Roberts University 1993.
Dorothy set an example of excellence. She desired to see children come to know and serve the Lord. She retired as an administrator of the Harrisonville Christian School in 1995, after 27 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Jay Hartzler.
She is survived by her children; Kathleen & Don Miller, Lowell & Vicky Hartzler, Douglas & Becky Hartzler, grandchildren; David Richard Lockwood, Nathan & Faith Hartzler, Matthew & Kathryn Hartzler, Levi Miller, Andrew Hartzler, Tiffany Hartzler, a great-granddaughter, Melody Hartzler & her three stepsisters, Pauline Hartzler, Joy Blair, & Jean Hershey
Funeral service was held Monday, June 30, 2014 at the Harrisonville Community Church with burial in the Clearfork Cemetery near Garden City, Missouri.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Dorothy Hartzler Christian Education Fund.
