Douglas Gene Allen, 65, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri passed away unexpectedly on April 4, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on March 29, 1946 to Orville T. Allen and Junetta Smith Allen. On March 13, 1965, he was united in marriage to Gloria Noell and from this union, two daughters were born; DeAnna Lynn and Cristina Jo. Doug attended Garden City, Missouri schools and graduated from Garden City High School in 1964. He attended Central Missouri State University before beginning work at John Deere in March of 1965. In 1968 while working at John Deere, Doug was drafted into the army and was soon deployed to Vietnam. After being discharged from the Army in 1970, he then returned to John Deere at Kansas City, and was later relocated to Nebraska for a short period of time. He held numerous positions that required travel to Europe and Australia, and most recently traveled extensively throughout the Midwest. He retired from John Deere as the Branch Customer Support Manager in the Worldwide Agricultural Division after 41 years on January 1st, 2007.

After his retirement, Doug enjoyed spending time at his house at Lake of the Ozarks. Here, he acquired many great friends to add to his collection of lifelong friends from his youth and throughout his career. He enjoyed golfing, fair-weather fishing, shopping at Home Depot, Westlake Hardware, Lowes, and his favorite store, Price Chopper. He held a fascination for agriculture and could be found in his spare time on his John Deere either mowing or removing snow for himself, friends and neighbors.

He was honored as an Eagle Scout and a member of the Mic-O-Say tribe. He was very proud to have served his country and was an active member of the Harrisonville VFW Post 4409 and the American Legion Zack Wheat Post 624 in Sunrise Beach, Mo.

In addition; he was co-owner with his family of Hair Designer’s Ltd. in Lee’s Summit, Mo. His most special times were spent with the loves of his life, his wife, daughter and son-in-law, and most importantly, his granddaughters, of which he was extremely proud.

In keeping with his special way he had of caring, he has left this life still giving and caring for others by donating his eyes so that another can see.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Orville T. Allen and Junetta Smith Allen, his infant daughter DeAnna Lynn Allen, and his sister-in-law Skip Baxter.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years Gloria Noell Allen, his daughter Cristina Jo and husband Brad Swanson, granddaughters Aidan Noell and Delaney Glen, sister Sharon Yoder and husband Joe, brother Ronald Allen and wife Jeanne, sister Linda Mueller and husband Ronnie, sister-in-law Judy Fligg and husband Bill, and brother-in-law Gene Noell and wife Sheila, as well as many nieces and nephews. And never to be forgotten, his faithful companion Willie.In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be contributed to the Disabled Veterans of Foreign Wars or the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 8, 2011 at the Aldergate United Methodist Church, 350 SW State Rt 150, Lee's Summit, Missouri.
