Dr. John Dee “J.D.” Jones, of Harrisonville, Missouri, was born September 8, 1921 in Kansas, Oklahoma the son of James Bert and Ada (Luper) Jones. He departed this life on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at the Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg, Missouri at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 19 days.
On May 29, 1945, John was united in marriage to Lucille Dorton in Chicago, Illinois.
John was a 1948 graduate of the Northern Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois and began his practice in Harrisonville, Missouri in 1949 until his retirement in 1981. John was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Harrisonville. John received his pilot license and loved to fly anytime he could.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Lash in 1986; two grandsons, Curtis Brian Linthicum in 1994 and Christopher Lash in 1986; a brother, Edgar Jones.
John is survived by a son, Thad T. Jones and wife Pam, Archie, Missouri; two daughters, Nancy Linthicum and husband Dennis, Harrisonville, Missouri, Jan D. Moore, Pleasant Hill, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur H. “Pete” Jones and Donald L. Jones both of Jefferson City, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Cremation. A Celebration of Life Visitation was held Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with inurnment at the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville immediately following with Military Honors.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Crossroads Hospice or the St. Peter's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, Harrisonville, Missouri.
