Edna Marie Warren entered into the light of eternal life on April 4, 2006 at Cass Medical Center, Harrisonville, Missouri. She was born to Ira Terrell and Edna Mae (Dixon) Bruce on February 14, 1917 at the family home near Palemon in Carroll County, Missouri.
Edna Marie was raised in the Sugartree Community, and graduated from Carrollton High School in 1933, at the age of 16. After one year of college at Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, she accepted a teaching position in Carroll County. She continued to teach until her retirement from the Santa Fe School District in Waverly, Missouri in 1993.
On August 19, 1937, Edna Marie married Ray Edwin Warren in Oskaloosa, Kansas. They made their home in southern Carroll County where Ray farmed. During World War II, she took leave from teaching children to teach blueprint and specification reading to adults at the Pratt-Whitney Aircraft Engine plant in Kansas City.
She taught 2nd grade from 1955 until 1957 in Fort Sumner Public Schools, Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
Ray was injured in an auto accident in August of 1957. Edna Marie became his around-the-clock nurse through a year at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, and at home until he passed away August 15, 1965.
Edna Marie continued to farm and teach part-time until 1969, when she want back to the classroom full-time in the Santa Fe District, teaching Kindergarten for the next 24 years. Several children in her last classes were the children of those in her first classes!
Following her retirement, she moved to Harrisonville, and became active in Kiwanis, Heartland Area Homemakers Club, Delta Kappa Gamma Education Sorority and a member of the First Baptist Church, Archie, Missouri. She had a lifelong interest in conservation and was a member of the Ducks Unlimited. For two years, she played ""Mrs. Santa"" at Harrisonville's Christmas Lighting, reading to the children at the Library - a perfect role for a lady who loved children so much!
Edna Marie loved music, and played piano effortlessly, although she never could read music - hearing a song once was enough to bring it through her fingers to the keyboard.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Dianne Warren, Harrisonville, Missouri; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Brittany and Cisco Arroyo and great-grandson, Xavier Arroyo, Leavenworth, Kansas; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jay and Jessica Warren and great-granddaughter Emily Marie, San Antonio, Texas.
