Eldon Richie Summers, of Harrisonville, Missouri, was born November 7, 1932 in on a farm near Racket, Missouri, the son of Elmer and Melba (Hosterman) Summers. He departed this life Thursday, October 27, 2005, Golden Years Care Services, Harrisonville at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 20 days.
Eldon was in the United States Air Force for 20 years and at General Service Administration for 17 years for a total of 37 years with the United States Government. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War. Eldon was a member of the Shady Grove Church since he was 13 and the American Legion Post #498, Garden City, Missouri. When he retired in 1973, Eldon bought a farm near Dayton, Missouri and raised cattle until he moved to Harrisonville in 2000. He was a generous person and adopted many families overseas.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Elza D. Summers in 1940 and a sister, Wanda Eckart on June 28, 2004.
He is survived by a son, Randel Denall Summers and wife Marsha, Harrisonville, Missouri; two grandsons, Randel Bradley Summers, Harrisonville, Missouri and Brock Denall Summers, Creighton, Missouri; a sister, Twila Corley, Lansing, Kansas and a brother Loy Summers and wife Vickie, Stockton, Missouri.
Eldon loved children and his grandchildren were a special treat to be with. He will be sadly missed by those who knew him.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Shady Grove Cemetery, Racket, Missouri.
