Evelyn Dykes of Lee?s Summit, Missouri was born February 25, 1939 in Clinton, Missouri the daughter of Edgar Earl and Nellie (Ferguson) Woods. She departed this life on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 1 day.
On August 2, 1957, Evelyn was united in marriage to Earl Wayne Dykes in Garden City, Missouri.
Evelyn was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Harrisonville, Missouri and the Ladies Legion of Honor, Ararat Shrine, Kansas City, Missouri. Evelyn enjoyed family gatherings, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She will remembered for her kind and gentle spirit to her family and friends. Evelyn had lived in Harrisonville until 1978 when she moved to Raytown, Missouri and to Lee?s Summit, Missouri in 1985.
Besides her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar and two sisters, Helen and Margaret.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Wayne Dykes of the home; a son, Capt. Randell Dykes and wife, Leslie, Burke, Virginia; a daughter, Sandi Jackson and husband, Harold, Harrisonville, Missouri; seven grandchildren; Zach, Lindsey, Hannah, Heath, Chad, Alex and Scott; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Woods, Ogden, Utah; two sisters, Virginia Hogue, Richland, Washington, Betty Jo Gimarelli, Portland, Oregon; other relatives and many friends.
Celebration of Life services were held Monday, January 3, 2011 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri. Cremation with inurnment in the Garden City, Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas City Hospice House.
