Gerald Leroy 'Buddy' Tarter

Gerald Leroy “Buddy” Tarter of Norfolk, Arkansas passed at his home on June 21, 2011 at the age of 64. He was born on August 6, 1946 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Ernest L. and Oleta “Jerry” Tarter.
During his early years, Buddy, enjoyed playing many sports including baseball, roller hockey and ice hockey. He loved playing hockey and truly enjoyed being a goalie for both his roller and ice hockey teams. Buddy also played semi-professional hockey for the Buffalo Sabres. He attended grade school in Albuquerque and then moved to the Kansas City area finishing up his high school career at Belton High School in 1964.
Shortly after high school Buddy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country until November of 1968. While in the USMC he was one of three marines chosen out of 150 to attend Sea School. He then served three tours in Vietnam and was a Marine Security Guard on the USS Hornet. While on tour with the US 7th Fleet he obtained the boxing title of Welterweight Champion. Buddy finished up his military career with a rank Sergeant (E-5) at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California.
He began his civilian life in New Jersey as an insurance salesman for Travelers’ Insurance for many years. Buddy was also a free lance tile artist and then moved back to Belton and became a car salesman and manager for many years. He also enjoyed umpiring for the Belton Baseball Association. He was an avid hunter and truly enjoyed spending each deer season with his youngest daughter and two brothers and many friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his father Ernest Tarter and his brother Terry Wayne Tarter.
Buddy is survived by his wife Anita of the home. His four children Chip Tarter of San Diego, Eric Tarter and wife Amy of Harrisonville, Melissa Mears of Flippin, Arkansas, and Lacey Tarter of Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was also graced with 6 grandchildren and 8 nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his mother Oleta Emick of Warrensburg and two brothers, Ray Wheeler and Charlie Tarter of Harrisonville.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri. Cremation.
Family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the funeral home.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Buddy Tarter Memorial Fund.
