Guy H. Cumpton
March 31, 1945 — June 9, 2022
Guy Herman Cumpton was born at Grandad Browns home west of Dayton, MO. Son of Guy Dorvan Cumpton and Georgia Marie Brown Cumpton.
In his early years between chores of helping haul water and livestock for his folks and school he enjoyed spending time with Grandad Brown, whom he looked up to the most. He attended Dayton School for 8 years, Graduating from Archie High School in 1963. In the 70’s he belonged to a group called the JC’s, they did services for the community and had large gatherings for family and friends. Was always an adventure on his day off from work, helping friends out, with whatever they need. Many memories were made hunting and fishing.
He traveled around building cooling towers for a bit then started roofing in the late 70’s early 80’s. Going on to start Cumpton Roofing, turning that over to the boys around 2005. In 1990 he bought acreage west of Dayton, building his home and some land south of Dayton. He spent many hours clearing land and built several ponds where he raised catfish for a while. Also investing in cattle, which meant the world to him, sometimes he would say he liked them better than his kids. Some of his favorite times was playing cards, be it at the tavern with friends or at Mother’s with family and friends. His most enjoyed adventure was riding a homemade raft down the Missouri River with friends.
He joined the Mason in 1994. Enjoyed helping the community. He was a member of the Dayton Community Church, was baptized. was a member of the FFA.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Brother Ivan Cumpton and sister-in-law Pamela Cumpton.
He is survived by 4 children and their families. Guy Darren (Laura) Cumpton, Cindy Ott, James Cumpton, Jenny Cumpton. Grandchildren Jacob, Kayla (Rory), Kara, Kendra, Emma (Phillip), Joshua, and Karlie. 2 great grandchildren, Elijah, and Arya. Sister-in-law Sharon Cumpton, brother Alvin (Patricia) Cumpton, Brother Paul (Marge) Cumpton and brother John (Connie) Cumpton. Many nieces and nephews, be it great and great-great. A large host of friends he considered family.
Masonic Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 11, 2022 at the Dayton Cemetery near Garden City, Missouri.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Dayton Community Church.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
