Hap Hays

June 8, 1927 — December 29, 2007

H.L. ""Hap"" Hays, of Clinton, Missouri, was born June 8, 1927 in Latour, Missouri, the son of Leonard Henry and Eula (Winegardner) Hays. He departed this life Saturday, December 29, 2007, at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton, at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 21 days.
Hap graduated from Archie High School in 1945 and later served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Elks Lodge all of Clinton. On May 20, 1951, Hap was united in marriage to Mary Ann Stine in Harrisonville, Missouri. They made their home in the Harrisonville and Garden City areas before moving to Clinton in 1963.
Hap was in the service station business before going full time into farming after moving to Clinton. He always loved the land and it gave him such pleasure working it everyday. The other love of his life was his wife of 56 years, Mary Ann, and his four children. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, a wonderful provider and an honest, hardworking man all his life. He also loved to quail hunt every season with Don Kenney, his buddy of 65 years.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his only brother, Bob Hays.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Hays of the home; his only daughter, Carol Harrison and husband Larry and grandson, Jake, Pleasant Hill, Missouri; three sons, Robert Hays and children, Jessica, Lindsay and Doug; Clint Hays and wife, Onalee and children, Brandon and wife, Kristen and their daughter, Riley, Lee's Summit, Missouri, Hunter, Hana, and Haylee; David Hays and wife Sheri and sons, Tyler and Landon all of Clinton, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Imogene Hays and nephew, Dennis Hays and family of Parsons, Kansas; other relatives and many friends.
Cremation. A memorial visitation was held Friday, January 4, 2008 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assocation or the Garden City Cemetery Association.
