Henry E. Funkhouser

Henry E. Funkhouser, 91, of Pleasant Hill, was born July 11, 1924, in Raytown, Missouri, the son of James E. and Anna L. (Pendelton) Funkhouser. He departed this life Saturday, January 30, 2016, at the Cass Regional Medical Center, Harrisonville, surrounded with love and family.
On August 13, 1950, he was united in marriage to Arline Volkart at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in California, Missouri. She preceded him in death just a few months earlier on November 17, 2015.
Early in Henry’s career he worked alongside his family at Funkhouser Dairy in Raytown; later he owned and operated Better Built Homes of Pleasant Hill where he used his gift as a carpenter to build numerous homes in the Pleasant Hill area. He also farmed. He was an active member and former Sunday school teacher of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Harrisonville. In his spare time he enjoyed farming, latch hook, puzzles, and spending time with family.
Henry was preceded in death by four sisters, May DeBrot, Helen Aldrich, Julia Cole, and Leona Cary.
He is survived by three daughters, Becky (and Terry) Wilson and Annie (and Bill) Vaughn, both of Pleasant Hill, and Patty (and Mark) Diers, of Howard Lake, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Todd (and Nici) Wilson of Pleasant Hill, Adam (and Crystal) Vaughn of Lone Jack, Scott (and Jennifer) Vaughn of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Julie Kinney of Pleasant Hill, Jeff (Leisha) Diers, and Keith (and fiancé Bridget Comee) Diers, both of Howard Lake; nine great grandchildren (Taylor, Conway and Delilah Vaughn, Tyne and Truman Wilson, Tyler and Olivia Vaughn, Emma and Michael Kinney); other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, (2400 E. Mechanic St., Harrisonville, Missouri, 64701). Pastor John Stelter will officiate. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers are Jeff Diers, Keith Diers, Adam Vaughn, Scott Vaughn, Todd Wilson and Bruce Simms.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are lovingly suggested to Our Savior Lutheran Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
