Howard Lee Collins, 80, of Pleasant Hill, was born March 13, 1936, in Pleasant Hill, the son of Lloyd and Elsie (Ferguson) Collins. He departed this life, Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at the Pleasant Hill Health & Rehabilitation center.
Howard was a 1954 Pleasant Hill High School graduate and a United States Army Veteran.
On June 30, 1960, he was united in marriage to Sandra Jean Douglas at the First Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill.
Right out of high school Howard was employed by Tilman Cloud at the Pleasant Hill Times as a Typesetter. Later he went to work for Neal/Settle Printing retiring in 2001 after 34 years with the company. He had been active with scouts serving as Cub Scout Leader for many years. He was a member of the Big Creek Baptist Church.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Elsie Collins, one brother Richard “Dick” Collins, two daughter-in-laws Tricia Collins and Teresa Rabideau, one granddaughter, Lindsey Collins.
He is survived by his wife Sandra of the home; three sons, Michael Collins of Grain Valley, Dan (and Sherry) Collins of Pleasant Hill, and Kevin Collins of Kansas City; 6 grandchildren, Shane Collins and Lacey Collins of Blue Springs, Lesli (and Bryan) Gosseen of Merriam, Tyler (and Shanda) Collins of Peculiar, Brittany Collins of Smithville, and Justin Collins of Kansas City; one great granddaughter, Krista; one step-grandson, Travis Franklin of Pleasant Hill; one sister, Ruth Ann (and Jim) Faith of Independence; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 2, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Pastor Todd MacLean of the Big Creek Baptist Church will officiate.
Military grave side services and interment were held Tuesday, May 3, in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Army and the V.F.W. Post #3118 Honor guard. Casket bearers are Justin Collins, Shane Collins, Tyler Collins, Jerry Thompson, Don Ward, and Matt Weiershauser. Honorary casket bearers are Bob Benware, Lee Boyd, Bill Cotton, Larry Colvin, Mike Neal, Jay Sanders, and Larry Seelinger.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Ascend Hospice or the Big Creek Baptist Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
