Irene Ellen Mainard of Garden City, Missouri was born August 21, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Harry Benjamin and Vera Maude (Forester) Steele - Blanton. She departed this life on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Cass Medical Center, Harrisonville, Missouri surrounded by love and family after a long battle with dementia but succumbed to a massive stroke at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 7 days.
On December 22, 1946, Irene was united in marriage to Arthur Henry Mainard in Kansas City, Kansas.
Irene was employed as a team leader for the House of Lloyd in Grandview, Missouri until her retirement in 1996. Earlier she was employed by the IRS as a data transcriber at the Bannister Service Center, Kansas City, Missouri. Irene was an avid reader, loved to travel and do volunteer work. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Garden City and the VFW Auxiliary in Harrisonville. Irene was a lifelong area resident.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur, August 21, 1992; two brothers, Chub Baumhoff, Eugene Steele; five sisters; Helen Skipper, Grace Rhew, Vivian Makowski, Rosalene Mullikin and Alice Henry.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Deborah Mainard Welton (David) Topeka, KS; her son, Keven Mainard Garden City, MO, 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, a brother Robert Steele, Belton, Missouri and too many nieces and nephews to list.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri. Burial will be in the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
