James Cook

James Walker ""Jim"" Cook, of Garden City, Missouri, was born December 12, 1924 at Salisbury, Missouri the son of Harry Jasper and Bernice (Webb) Cook. He departed this life Saturday, March 1, 2008, at his daughter's home in Garden City at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 19 days.
On May 21, 1970, Jim was united in marriage to Helen Virginia Mandl in Kansas City, Missouri.
Jim was employed as a butcher for Swift & Company Meat Processing, Kansas City, Kansas until his retirement in 1973. Later he owned and operated the tavern in Urich, Missouri and had previously owned and operated Idle Hour Bar in Kansas City from 1972 until 1978. Jim was an Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Garden City and had served as a volunteer for the Veteran's Thrift Store. He enjoyed going to the boats and traveling. Jim loved to raise tomatoes. He had lived in Kansas City before moving to Garden City in August, 2000.
Besides his parents, He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Sandusky in 2005 and a son, James Walker Cook, Jr. in 1957.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of the home; one daughter, Loyce Stewart, Garden City, Missouri; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Bates, Keytsville, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the Dickey Funeral Home in Garden City, Missouri.
Family suggest that Memorial Contributions may be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice, Kansas City, Missouri or to the American Lung Association.
