James Corbett Cummins of Pleasant Hill, Missouri was born September 10, 1934 in Oak Grove, Missouri the son of Arlie Glenn and Clara Mable (Jackson) Cummins. He departed this life Thursday, July 14, 2005, at his home, surrounded by his children near Pleasant Hill at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 4 days.
On August 8, 1954, Jim was united in marriage to Janet Charlene Boyland in Oak Grove, Missouri.
Jim provided for his family as a relief man for General Motors Leeds Plant, Kansas City, Missouri until his retirement on October 1, 1985. He also had his own horse shoeing business as a side job. He owned and raised horses and traveled around the area to horse shows and rodeos that his children rode their horses in. He enjoyed playing his guitar and bass with many bands that he was in. With that interest, he dedicated 10 years of his life playing music at the local rest homes with his band, The Country Ramblers. Jims hobbies included collecting guns, target shooting, riding 4-wheelers and go carts with his family, woodworking, making crafts, horses and restoring cars. He was a member of the UAW Local #93, Kansas City, Missouri and also a member of the NRA. Jim had lived in Grain Valley, Missouri before moving to East Lynne in 1972.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn and wife of 50 years, Janet on December 2, 2004.
He is survived by three sons, Chris Cummins, Archie, Missouri, Corby Cummins, Harrisonville, Missouri, Chad Cummins and wife, Shawna, Lexington, Missouri; two daughters, Kim Tarwater and husband, Randy and Kathy Armstrong all of Harrisonville, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, Jeff, Seth, Josh, Casey, Cody, Jordan, Emma, Jaela, Crystal, Michael, Travis and Scottie; a great-granddaughter; his mother, Mable Cummins, Oak Grove, Missouri; two brothers, Arlie Cummins, Bates City, Missouri; David Cummins, Oak Grove, Missouri; a sister, Lona Gercone, Farmington, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
We will miss his fun sense of humor, his big smile that was always on his face and his kind heart.
Graveside services were held Monday, July 18, 2005 at Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, Missouri.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
