James P. 'Jim' Whitaker Jr.

James "Jim" Philip Whitaker Jr., of Peculiar, Missouri was born April 1, 1941 in Paducah, Kentucky the son of James Philip and Ruby Norman (Osburn) Whitaker Sr. He departed this life on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at his home surrounded by love and family at the age of 73 years, 9 month and 2 days.
Jim was united in marriage to Marie Frances Feix in Jamestown, Tennessee.
Jim was a well known claims adjuster for Liberty Mutual Insurance and Cameron Insurance until his retirement in 2004. He was a high school graduate of the Paducah Tillman High School and was an University of Kentucky Alumni, Lexington, Kentucky. Jim was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and the American Radio Relay League and his call signs were WB4JYX and KD0OD. He enjoyed fishing, making and flying RC planes, ham radios and was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan.
He was preceded in death by his father; a sister, Betty Lou Cashon and an infant brother, William Norman Whitaker.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marie F. Whitaker of the home; two daughters, Veronika Ray, Peculiar, Missouri, Amy Hammack, Raymore, Missouri; two sons, James Douglas Whitaker and wife Jenni, Papillion, Nebraska, Philip Andrew Whitaker, Peculiar, Missouri; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Travis, Jimmy and Jack; his mother, Ruby Whitaker, Paducah, Kentucky; two sisters, Kathryn Whitaker, Waterford, Connecticut, Jan Whitaker-Scott and husband Neal, Paducah, Kentucky; nieces, Angela, Natalie and Karen; nephews, Daniel, Ken, John, Karl, Michael, Johnny and Joe; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Wills Cemetery near Peculiar.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the West Peculiar Township Fire Protection District and may be left at the funeral home.
