Jan Deloris Baker, 76, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born January 25, 1939, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. She departed this life at 2:56 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015, at her home surrounded by love and family.
Jan was a 1957, Parkersburg, West Virginia High School graduate. She was a United States Marine Corps veteran.
Jan was employed as a Financial Accountant for the Department of Defense with Marine Corps Finance Center and the president of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE)-Local 2904 for over 10 years.
Jan loved animals, and treasured her four shiatsus. She enjoyed crocheting and cooking, especially for family. Jan also enjoyed reading and gardening. She was a very direct and honest person, and passionate about giving and helping others. Jan was a member of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare and AFGE Local 2904. Jan showed her charity nature by supporting St. Jude Miracle Hospital, Veterans of Foreign War of US, National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, Paralyzed Veterans of American, Wounded Warrior, Sacred Heart League, Cheyenne River Outreach, St. Joseph Indian School, and KCPT. She was a wonderful mother and gave everything she had to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Gale Powell and two sisters, Janet and Jeanne Powell.
Jan is survived by two sons, Brian Baker of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Bruce Baker of Memphis, Tennessee; two daughters, Broshel (and David) Gray of Holden, Missouri, and Belynda Baker of Kansas City, Kansas; four grandchildren, Brandi (and Bobby) Cheney of Holden, Missouri, Trevor (and Samantha) Baker of Raytown, Missouri, Natalie Baker and Brittany Schoning, both of Kansas City, Kansas; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Roger Lee Powell of Parkersburg, West Virginia; other relatives and friends.
Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Reverend D. Kent Deubner will officiate.
Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Jude Miracle Hospital and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
