Joe Hernandez

Tony Joe Hernandez of Creighton, Missouri departed this life on Monday, February 15, 2021 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri surrounded by love and family at the age of 69 years, 6 months and 9 days.

On May 3, 2009 Joe was united in marriage to Mary Sue (Lewis) Polzin in East Lynne, Missouri.

Joe was employed as a millwright for Automatic Systems in Kansas City, Missouri until his retirement. He was a faithful member of Heart of Life Church, Garden City, Missouri and played the bass guitar in their music ministry. Joe was a home body and loved and cared for his family deeply. He enjoyed making knives, key chains, bracelets and many other items out of power cord. Joe was a lifelong area resident of Garden City before moving to Creighton in 2009.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Daniel.

Joe is survived by his wife, Sue Hernandez of the home; a son, Nathan Hernandez (Kendra), Grandview, Missouri; a daughter, Tara Bace (Jeff), Madisonville, Kentucky; a step-daughter, Miranda Tuter, Creighton, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, Rachel, Brittany, Michael and Alex; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 step great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, David Hernandez and Paul Hernandez both of Garden City, Missouri; 6 sisters, Christine Smith, DeKalb, Missouri, Glenda Giesken, Wilcox, Missouri, Mildred Fransson, Sweden, Teresa Gay, Garden City, Missouri, Vanessa Conger, Garden City, Missouri, Deneice Beggs. Guilford, Missouri; other relatives and a host of friends.

Cremation. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held at the Garden City Community Building, Garden City, Missouri on Sunday May 30, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. for family only and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for friends.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri.
