John Donald Purtle

John Donald ?Don? Purtle of Greenwood, Missouri was born January 2, 1931 in Stanley, Kansas the son of John Alfred and Laverne Rose (Young) Purtle. He departed this life Sunday, October 11, 2009 at St. Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 9 days.
On December 30, 1972, Don was united in marriage to Bette Diane Plaut in Harrisonville, Missouri.
Don was employed as a warehouseman for The Upjohn Company, Kansas City, Missouri for 31 years until his retirement in 1990 and was also involved with farming near Stanley, Kansas before moving to Garden City, Missouri in 1959. Don was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville, Missouri where he loved to serve the Parish. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Don loved his family, doing yard work, being outdoors, planting flowers and was a great gardener. He lived his life with grace, humility and love.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Donald L. Purtle on July 29, 1987 and JD Purtle on January 29, 1974 and a daughter, Michelle King on May 19, 2007.
He is survived by his wife, Bette D. Purtle of the home; four grandchildren, Elizabeth J. King, Cheyenne E. King, Shelby M. King and John A. Purtle; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2700 E. Mechanic St., Harrisonville, Missouri with burial at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Stanley, Kansas.
Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Building Fund or to the Stanley High School Reunion Fund.
