John H. James

John Harold James of Garden City, MO was born June 16, 1932 in Harrisonville, MO the son of John Newton and Lucile (Parish) James. He departed this life on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at his home surrounded by love and family at the age of 83 years and 14 days.
On February 11, 1972 John was united in marriage to Peggy Gross in Harrisonville, MO.
John was employed as a postal clerk at the Harrisonville Post Office until his retirement. Earlier he was employed as a car salesman, worked at several banks, had an insurance agency, owned a bar and Johnnie's Liquors. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War receiving 4 bronze stars. His early education was at Bell Plain rural school and later attended Harrisonville High School.
John enjoyed life, his family and friends, his afternoon bunch, socializing, playing cards and watching sports. He especially enjoyed watching football with his favorite footballers on Sunday afternoon gatherings for several years.
He was a member of Cass Masonic Lodge #147, Cass County Shrine Club, Bayard Chapter OES, lifetime member of VFW Post #4409, American Legion Post #42 all of Harrisonville, MO, Ararat Shrine, Kansas City, MO and Mary Commandry #19, Warrensburg, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John is survived by his wife, Peggy James of the home; 2 sons, Karl Schrock of the home, Mike James, Akron, Ohio; a sister, Jean Morgison, Oklahoma City, OK; 4 grandsons, John Thomas James, Noah James, Kolton and Karter Schrock; 2 great-grandsons, William and Aubrey James; several nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of friends.
John was loved by family and his many friends and with John's passing who will those friends argue with now.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 3, 2015 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, Missouri.
Family suggests memorial contributions to the Friendship Meals, Garden City or the Ministerial Alliance, c/o Heart of Life Fellowship Church, Garden City.
