Ken Meyer

Harold Kenneth Meyer, 85, of Pleasant Hill, was born, July 5, 1930, in Henry County, the son of Julius F. and Eunice M. (Hendrick) Meyer. He departed this life Sunday, May 29, 2016 surrounded by his family.
Ken was a 1949 Creighton high school graduate. Following high school Ken honorably served our country in the U.S. Air Force. He later earned his Master’s Degree from the University of Missouri.
On May 27, 1956, he was united in marriage to Mary Patricia Moody in Harrisonville. May 27th, 2016 marked their 60th anniversary.
Ken was employed as a Vocational Agriculture teacher in Pleasant Hill for nearly 30 years retiring in 1985. He was a charter member and past-president of the Pleasant Hill Lions Club, and a member of the Pleasant Hill Historical Society. He was a member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Pleasant Hill. Some of Ken’s favorite activities were working outside, gardening, and working the family farm near Urich.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Meyer; and one sister, Betty Thomas.
He is survived by his wife Mary Pat of the home; two daughters, Gretchen Lucile (Rick) Benware, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Melanie Kenn (Brian) Zink-Schyvinck of Blue Springs; 6 grandchildren, Patrick (Christina) Benware of Denver, Colorado, Megan Benware of Girdwood, Alaska, Kendra (Ryan) Leiker of Prairie Village, Kansas, Erica Zink and Tyler Schyvinck, both of Blue Springs, and Meredith Schyvinck of Fayetteville, Arkansas; one great grandson, Grayson Meyer Benware of Denver; two brothers, J.Lee (Joyce) Meyer, and Gerald (Chris) Meyer, both of Independence; and other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held Thursday, June 2, 2016, at the First Presbyterian Church, Pleasant Hill, (210 N. Jeffreys, Pleasant Hill, Missouri 64080). Reverend Albert McDowell and Pastor Jason Ku will officiate. The Ceremony of the Rose will be conducted by the Pleasant Hill Lions Club, just prior to the service. Following the service full military honors were performed by the U.S Air Force and the Pleasant Hill V.F.W. Post #3118 Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Lion International project Leader Dog to the Blind and First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund. Both may be sent in care of the funeral home.
