Laurice Vida Adams, lovingly known as "Midge," passed away Tuesday morning, October 30, 2018 at Golden Years Care Center, Harrisonville, Missouri at the age of 97. Midge was born in 1921 in Jay, Florida to George and Emma McArthur.
She is proceeded by her sisters, Wilma Mixon and Ida Barns; her brothers, J. Burton McArthur and Emmet Cal McArthur; her husband Don Adams; one daughter, Donna Lindsey.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan E. Meador and husband Don of Freeman, Missouri; son-in-law, John Lindsey of Springfield, Missouri; five granchildren, Michael J. Lindsey. Michelle K. Wilson, Abigail H. Meador, Angela H. Bacevius, John M. Lindsey; ten great grandchildren, Emma Lindsey, Joshua Lindsey, Sarah Meyers, Zach Lindsey, Sam Lindsey, David Lindsey, Rachel Wilson, Danniel Wilson, Rhonda Wilson, Tobias Wilson; two great-great grandchildren, Lily Johnson and William Lindsey.
After graduating from Jay High School, Midge moved from Florida to Independence, Missouri where she studied Nursing and obtained her RN license. While she was still in school, she met her one and only Don Adams. They married in 1942 and were together for sixty nine and half years until Don's passing in 2012. During WW II while Don serviced overseas, she worked as a nurse in the states. After the war they began their family and had two daughters Donna I. and Joan E.
Midge was a member of the Blue Springs Missouri RLDS Remnant Church for many years.
In her early nursing career she did private duty nursing for President Truman's brother-in-law and met the president. As a Registered Nurse she was able to be a Nursing Home adm. and owner. She also was an owner and manager of Dayton Hotel in Lee's Summit, Missouri. She had many hobbies in fiber arts; sewing, quilting, applique work, embroidery and candle-wicking. She enjoyed cooking especially southern foods. She made cheese bread to take to any friends and family that were ill. She made pies for every occasion. She was a good daughter stalling her career to go to Florida to look after her dying father, a good sister and a good wife and mother. But she was an even more devoted grandmother and great grandmother. She loved her grandkids and devoted herself to setting them on a good path in life teaching them respect and appreciation for others, helping them get a strong spiritual foundation. She also loved and cared for many nieces and nephews. She took one niece, Miriam, to her first day of kindergarten after the unexpected passing of her mother, because she said, "It is important to let the girls, Laurel and Miriam, know they have an aunt that is there for them and loves them."
Midge had a good sense of humor, and friends and family will miss that the most.
