Lawrence Ervin Rushly of Harrisonville, Missouri was born June 14, 1910 on a farm near Medford, Missouri, south of Holden, Missouri the son of Chris W. and Susie Anna (Raber) Rushly. He departed this life Saturday, October 8, 2007 at his home near Harrisonville at the age of 97 years, 3 months and 22 days.
On June 9, 1935 he was united in marriage to Ruth King the daughter of Bro. David S. and Barbara (Kauffman) King. Ruth was the teacher at Germantown, a rural school located on what is now known at Christmas Tree Lane near Harrisonville.
At an early age of 6, Lawrence, together with his parents and two brothers, Rolla and Ralph moved to a farm Northwest of Garden City, Missouri. He became a member of the Sycamore Grove Mennonite Church. Farming alone and with his two brothers has been his life's work. He enjoyed raising Registered Milking Shorthorn Cattle. When his older brother, Rolla was stricken with osteomyelitis he began ""carrying the heavy end"" for his brother that would continue as they worked side by side for many years.
Lawrence's quiet manner, non-complaining spirit and enduring patience never wavered throughout his life. His devotion to others has been the hallmark of his 97 years of life. He gave tireless support and care to his wife, Ruth and to his sisters-in-law, Ella and Mary when they were in their declining years.
His grandchildren have many special memories of Grandpa. In particular, Debbie and Tamie recount Grandpa giving them their first cups of coffee at a very early age. Although it was mostly a cup of milk with a tablespoon of coffee, it was fun to drink coffee with Grandpa and it birthed the girl's love of coffee to this day. Jerry remembers the many times Grandpa would go out in the yard and play ball with him. Grandpa even reminisced with Jerry about the ballgames they used to have just several days before his death.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death his wife, Ruth on August 1, 1999 and his two brothers, Rolla and Ralph.
