Lloyd Karl McDonnell went to his heavenly home on February 17, 2011 at the age of 84 years. Lloyd Karl was born January 19 1927 at the farm home near Archie Mo to James Karl (JK) and Mary Dot Vansandt McDonnell, accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord as a young man and was originally baptized in Grand River. He attended Everett Rural School, Archie and Harrisonville High School, excelling in sports, football and basketball, going on to state track. He was a delegate to Boys State in Jefferson City as well as being on the 4-H and MU Livestock Judging Teams. During WWII he served in the Army, then using the GI Bill he graduated with a BS in Agriculture from University of Missouri at Columbia. December 31 1947 he married Rose Marie Erickson. To this union three children were born: Michael Lloyd, Mark Erick and Karla Ann.
L.K. was a livestock and grain farmer in Everett Township west of Archie, the farm including land his grandfather McDonnell bought in 1904, and which was named a Cass County Centennial Farm in 2004. He was named Outstanding Young Farmer in 1957, and in the 1960s ranched in Montana with the help of his son Mark. Since retirement a portion of the farm has been allocated for Conservation and Quail Habitat. He was a former agriculture extension agent, president of International Flying Farmers, served on Congressman Skelton?s Farmers Advisory Committee and Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee for Trade Negotiations on Livestock and Livestock Products, Cass County Zoning Board, PCA Director, Everett School Board and Treasurer Archie Baptist Church. He loved to fly, winging his way with family and friends from Canada to Costa Rica, New York to California, and enjoyed taking others up for a spin including the Archie Basketball Team. Both L.K. and Rose Marie were active as members and leaders in 4-H, hosting an exchange student from Israel whom they later visited in Israel. In later years he enjoyed meeting with former classmates and reminiscing about the good old days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: James Hamilton (J.H.), two sisters: Cecil Spencer and Georgia Bosley.
He is survived by his wife of the home Rose Marie McDonnell, two sons: Michael McDonnell of Columbus NE, Mark and Minnie McDonnell of Archie MO, and daughter Karla and Jim Brewster of Butler MO. Five grandchildren: Jennifer and Ryan Olson of Bozeman MT, Joseph and Tabitha Brewster of Adrian MO, Ericka and John Longpine of Walnut Grove MO, Erwin McDonnell of Archie, MO, and Kevin Brewster of Columbia MO. Three great grandchildren: Sydney and Jacob Olson, John C. Longpine, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 21, 2011 at the First Baptist Church, Archie, Missouri with burial in the Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, Missouri.
