Lloyd Granville Sims formerly of Independence, Missouri was born April 14, 1915 in Sedalia, Missouri the son of William and Julia Ann (Lawson) Sims. He departed this life Monday July 21, 2008 at the Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg, Missouri at the age of 93 years, 3 months and 7 days.
On May 28, 1947, Lloyd married Donita Elizabeth McCulloh on the family farm near Garden City, Missouri. Lloyd was employed as a machinist for R.M.F. Steel Products, Mission, Kansas until his retirement in 1977. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and a member of the Waldo Avenue Baptist Church until it closed and then moved to the Birchwood Baptist Church both of Independence, Missouri. Lloyd loved to fish, play bridge, cards and board games.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Donita Sims on August 6, 1995; a brother, Raymond Sims and a sister, Lillian Richards.
He is survived by two sons, Norman Sims and wife, Sharon, Independence, Missouri and Lowell Sims and wife Pamela, Garden City, Missouri; four granddaughters, Dayna, Denise, Katherine, Julie; five great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2008 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2008 at the funeral home.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg, Missouri.
