Lydia Marie Hasenyager

January 12, 1927 — January 17, 2011

Lydia Marie Hasenyager of Peculiar, MO passed away Monday, January 17, 2011 at Adrian Manor, Adrian, MO with her family by her side.
Lydia came into this world on January 12, 1927 in Rocky Ford, Colorado. She joined a large family -- her parents Jacob and Mary Steir, five brothers, and three sisters. An early tragedy struck her young life and she was placed in an orphanage. This experience made her into a strong woman.
At the age of 18, she moved to Kansas City and began a new life working in a restaurant. She married and had two daughters, Linda and Amy. She later divorced. In 1964 she met Charles Hasenyager, who had four children of his own. They fell in love and joined their two families into one. Their new family moved to Raymore in 1966. Shortly after, the children found their mother a new career driving a school bus for Raymore Peculiar School District. Lydia continued to drive the bus until her last child graduated high school in 1979. She was proud that all six children graduated high school in the upper third of their class.
After Charlie retired, they loved going for long drives in the country, exploring new territories. Regardless of how lost Lydia thought they were, Charlie always managed to get them home. Another favorite pastime was cooking for her kids and grandkids. She loved having her family around so she could spoil the grandchildren and they knew Grandma would always have cookies in the cookie jar. She also enjoyed having the neighbors drop in for a cup of coffee and a long visit. She didn?t know you long before she adopted you into her family; many called her mom and grandma. Lydia was always there for her family, anytime they needed help.
Her other hobbies included bowling, crocheting, and listening to gospel music (especially the Gaithers). She also loved attending Coleman Baptist Church where she was a member.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her parents and siblings.
Lydia is survived by her children Charles and wife Valerie of Kansas City, MO, Bruce and wife Robin of Harrisonville, MO, Linda Hildebrant of Newark, CA, Kathleen Hasenyager of Kansas City, MO, Joy Kampling and husband Robert of Hutchinson, KS, Amy Moore and husband John of Peculiar, MO, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
Graveside services and interment were held Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Wills Cemetery near Peculiar.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice.
