Madeline Crawford

August 29, 1918 — January 6, 2016

Madeline Mary (Gaudin) Crawford, long-time resident of Creighton, Missouri, passed away peacefully in Blue Springs, MO on January 6, 2016, among family and loving friends, at the age of 97. Madeline and her twin sister, Bridget, were born August 29, 1918, in Mexico, Maine as the third and fourth children of Peter Joseph Gaudin and Isabel Mary (LeBlanc) Gaudin. She attended the Mexico Maine public schools, completing high school in 1936.

Madeline married Dale Morlan Crawford on August 19, 1940. They resided in the Mexico, Maine area until moving back to his home area in Missouri in early 1942.

Madeline stayed at home and raised her daughters (along with half the youngsters of Creighton area) until they were well into school age. She later worked as a seamstress and machine operator at the Garden City garment factory where she faithfully served her fellow workers as Union Representative for several years. She also served as Postmistess of the Creighton Post Office for a period of time. Madeline was beloved by friends and family alike as a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, daughter, sister and friend. And people still talk about her wonderful smile and her popcorn ball treats on Halloween! But she could be a tough cookie if need be --- many still remember her sass and spice, as well as the smile.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; her parents, Peter and Isabelle; twin sister, Bridget; sister, Emma; and brothers. Arthur and William (Billy).

She is survived by her daughters, Doris Ann Griffith of Grain Valley and Bridgett (Susie) Parks of Lees Summit; three grandchildren, Melanie Wolf (James), Shawn McFarland (Danielle) and Kevin Parks (Lisa); eight great-grandchildren, Ashleigh, Justin, Lauren, Makenzie, Brady, Jami, Kal and C Kameron; sister-in-law Patricia Pasley of Hot Springs Village; Gary Treese and other nieces, nephews and relatives.
