Mrs. Marie E. Nafus, of Harrisonville, Missouri, was born February 14, 1918 in Humansville, Missouri, the daughter of Charles T. and Minnie M. (Earnest) Akins. She departed this life Thursday, April 17, 2008, at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 3 days.
On December 23, 1936, Marie was united in marriage to Wilbur Howard Nafus in Butler, Missouri.
Marie was employed as an electronics assembler for Bendix, Kansas City, Missouri until her retirement on January 26, 1975. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Harrisonville and the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Machinist Lodge #778, Kansas City. Marie loved crocheting, quilting and playing cards. She had lived in Garden City and Kansas City before moving to Harrisonville in 1987.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur on May 20, 2003; four brothers, Roy, Charles, Homer and Ralph Akins; two sisters, Bonnie and Opal.
She is survived by a son, Ronald L. Nafus and wife Nancy, Overland Park, Kansas; two grandchildren, Robin Lynn Lyon and Todd Nafus; a great-grandson, Connor Gray; two brothers, A.J. Akins, Harrisonville, Missouri, Gearl Akins, Creighton, Missouri; two sisters, Pearl Bates, Garden City, Missouri, Faye Gibb, Blue Springs, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 21, 2008 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, MO with burial in the Garden City Cemetery.
